Gamekeeper’s Cottage is a beautifully furnished traditional stone-built cottage set in 80 acres of woodland on the Raithwaite Estate in the beautiful coastal village of Sandsend. Step inside and you are welcomed by the kitchen and dining space which leads through to the main living space with wood burner to keep you warm even on the coldest winter days, on warmer days the French doors open to the garden and terrace, a lovely spot for relaxing and taking in the wonderful wildlife all around, a favourite pastime of the owner, Anne.

The North Yorkshire Coast is spectacular with rugged cliffs and wide sandy beaches to explore, at low tide, walk along the beach to Whitby, climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, it is a place of intrigue and mystique and the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. You will also find traditional seaside favourites, such as award-winning fish n chip shops, candy floss, cockles and mussel sellers. For a change of scenery head across the the North York Moors where the scenery is wild and dramatic, sheep roam free, and villages of yesteryear take you on a trip down memory lane.

With three bedrooms sleeping five guests and two bathrooms, dog friendly Gamekeeper’s Cottage offers flexibility for families and friends to enjoy a beautiful escape by the sea.

The beach is a five minute walk from the cottage and is available to dog walkers all year round – a small section is out of bounds in the summer.

REVIEWS

We love to hear back from our guests to find out their experience with Beautiful Escapes.

September 2024
Gamekeeper’s Cottage was lovely, very comfortable, had everything you needed and more and the welcome pack got us off to a great start.
The North Yorkshire coast was beautiful, first time I have been back in over 20years and I had forgotten how lovely this area is. Our favourite places were Robin Hoods bay, Staithes, Whitby harbour and the famous Abbey and of course Sandsend itself. We also fitted in a train ride on the North Yorkshire steam train!
I would highly recommend Beautiful Escapes, the booking process was easy and straightforward. They also went above and beyond to make sure something important we had left behind was returned to us the next day! Excellent customer service.

We all enjoyed our holiday and loved Sandsend, the cottage was up to our expectations, it was well stocked with crockery, pans etc.
We had a few meals at Sandside cafe which was enjoyable, we also liked the outside setting.
We sat out in the garden  most evenings just chatting wrapped in the blankets you provided, it was most enjoyable.
Yes we would definitely book with you again you were extremely helpful with all my questions.

December 2023
We found Gamekeepers Cottage charming, comfortable, cosy and exceptionally well equipped in an attractive setting.  It’s position off the main throughway making it safe for my young grandson and dog.
The area, which we had not visited before, we enjoyed very much.   Sandsend just a short walk away was very picturesque with a lovely beach and friendly cafes.  The Hart Inn, Fish Cottage and Sneaton Castle excellent.  Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay, Staithes and surrounding areas we really enjoyed exploring.
My 5 year old grandson had a fantastic time at Mini Monsterz, which was close by and very well organised.
Your booking process very easy and I would definitely use your company again.
Again thank you and wishing you all of the very best for 2024
Christine
