PROPERTY DETAILS

Entrance Hall

Step in to the entrance hall and you are greeted by two striking artworks in this welcoming space, the first is a picture of hounds, “Out in Front” by Anthony Dobson, the second painting is of the wild Yorkshire moorland by Judith Levin. The main entrance leads to an inner hallway where a giant ordnance survey map of the local area makes for an interesting talking point, perfect for planning walking routes and recapping on recent explorations.

There is also a Wintersteiger tantum universal heated dryer with sterex (used for drying, disinfecting & deodorising coats, hats and boots) is located in the entrance hall, a true luxury for walkers arriving back after a day on the moors.

Living Space

Both apartments’ living areas have an open-plan design, creating inclusive spaces for socialising, dining and cooking. Exquisitely furnished using opulent fabrics including Mulberry, Linwood and Manuel Canovas have been used throughout for a luxe aesthetic.

Taking centre stage in The Pheasant is a magnificent silver chandelier from the throne room in Bishop Auckland Castle, original artwork of the North York Moors by local artist Laura Rich and a cosy contemporary wood-burning stove. The focal point in The Partridge’s living space is an impressive fireplace salvaged from No.1 Dock Street Leeds and marvellous views from its first-floor sash windows.

The Pheasant also contains a mezzanine, accessed via a specially commissioned spiral staircase. This provides an alternative sitting area with an OLED TV, but also serves as an additional bedroom, with the sofa converting into a most comfortable double bed. Both apartments’ living spaces offer charming views and the latest OLED TVs.

Kitchen & Dining

Open to the living areas, the two kitchens are a cook’s dream, beautifully designed, each incorporates a bar-style dining area and integrated Miele appliances. Deep blue cabinetry perfectly complements the vibrant hues found in the adjacent sitting areas. Guests have the option to gather as a single group in one or other of the apartments or to make use of the separate spaces when dining and relaxing.

THE LOCAL AREA

Helmsley & local area

The Norman Helmsley Castle dates back over 900 years. It has evolved over the centuries from a mighty medieval fortress to a luxurious Tudor mansion, a Civil War stronghold and a romantic Victorian ruin. The castle is open to visitors all year round, under the care of English Heritage.

Helmsley has everything you’d expect in a quintessentially English market town; a vibrant market square, independent specialist shops, unique places to eat and drink and an imposing castle.  It also has a walled garden, a bird of prey centre, a microbrewery, an open-air swimming pool, a luxury spa, a nature reserve, galleries and an arts centre.

From Helmsley, you can explore both The Howardian Hills and also the neighbouring North York Moors National Park, stretching across the Whitby and the coast. Varied walking routes are on offer for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect setting for a cycling holiday, with miles upon miles of challenging climbs and satisfying descents awaiting your discovery – rest assured that the jaw-dropping views make the climbs well-worth the burn!

There are many historical attractions nearby including the majestic Castle Howard,  the ecclesiastical ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and the National Birds of Prey Centre in Helmsley.

Lying just 24 miles north of the City of York, guests staying here are perfectly placed to head into a city centre that’s brimming history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below, or head to York Minster for some truly jaw-dropping architecture. Follow this with a wander around the quaint cobbled streets as you admire the architecture, peruse the local boutiques and discover York’s gourmet hotspots.

REVIEWS

We love to hear back from our guests to find out their experience with Beautiful Escapes.

August 2024

My family were all extremely pleased with every aspect of the property. It was probably the best equipped kitchen that we have come across in a rental property, also the beds were very comfortable as well as the living areas. The location was perfect for both adult and children’s activities, all within a short drive.
The booking process with Beautiful Escapes was quite straightforward and we didn’t encounter any issues, thank you for your help throughout.

August 2024

We stayed inThe Old Bank for the week to celebrate a family birthday, the apartments were beautifully appointed and very luxurious . Everything was to a very high standard – every appliance you could need was provided , including a dyson hair dryer, something I had wanted to try for a while  . The Harrison Spink beds were exceptionally comfortable with beautiful cotton sheets . The hot tub was a wonderful bonus all the family enjoyed staying and we will hopefully be back .

The location was fantastic right in the centre of Helmsley with parking too, it was great to be able to walk out first thing in the morning to the beautiful shops and cafes in Helmsley. Lots to do locally – cafes, shops, restaurants, walking , Helmsley walled garden ,North York  Moors railway , Flamingo land ( for the youngsters).

The booking process was very easy and the ladies at Beautiful escapes could not have been more helpful and responsive .

The Pheasant and Partridge at The Old Bank are hidden gems which I would highly recommend.

July 2024
We loved everything about our stay at the Old Bank.  The accommodations were lovely and comfortable, and it was especially nice having a terrace to enjoy outdoor weather when we wanted.  The beautiful decor made the stay all the more special. The mezzanine area in the Pheasant was the perfect space for the two teenagers in the group to hang out when they had some down time.
The location on the market square of Helmsley was absolutely perfect!  We loved being able to walk out our door to go to the pub or get morning pastries.  North Yorkshire was gorgeous – if our fellow Americans knew how amazing the area was, they’d be coming here by the busload!  We definitely want to return to the area to enjoy the natural beauty, friendly people and quaintness of Yorkshire.
Booking through Beautiful Escapes was a pleasure, we had a lot of questions about the area, travelling and so on and nothing was too much trouble, excellent service. Thank you!
