Living space

The open plan living space is well laid out with comfy sofas by the log fire and views out to the fields beyond, perfect for relaxing after a day spent exploring the Moors and all that the area has to offer.

The kitchen is well appointed, it will impress the most discerning of cooks, being open to the dining space makes it good for chatting about the day’s adventures while cooking up a tasty supper or preparing a hearty breakfast while planning a ramble across the fields.

In the spacious, comfortable bedroom, the super king size bed can be converted into two singles if you prefer. This pretty room enjoys lovely views out to the private garden. You will also find little Hendrick himself, nestled by the window, he is such a cutie!

The cottage is surrounded by spectacular countryside, there is a private garden with garden furniture just for you and there’s a firepit in the meadow, the perfect spot for a sundowner.

This beautiful part of North Yorkshire is a walker and cyclist’s paradise, with miles of footpaths, cycle routes and bridle ways not to mention the Coast-to-Coast and Cleveland Way paths. Nearby lies Byland and Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle, the National Bird of Prey Centre and Castle Howard, home to ITV’s ‘Victoria’. For history enthusiasts, the historic city of York is only a 40-minute drive away.

Helmsley, the only market town in the North York Moors National Park, is just 8 miles away, Malton is a similar distance and is fast gaining a reputation as the food capital of the North. Pickering is just over 5 miles, a small town with restaurants, supermarket and many independent shops.  While a little further afield is the North Yorkshire coast and seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington. Beach 24½ miles.

We love to hear back from our guests to find out their experience with Beautiful Escapes.

The first impression of Hendrick’s Hollow is that it is even better than the photos in real life, it is a beautiful home from home.

The cottage is ideally located for exploring North Yorkshire lovely walks to Sutton Bank White Horse, and Helmsley to Rievaulx are well worth it. We recommend the New Malton in Malton and The Magpie Cafe in Whitby for fish and chips.

We certainly hope to be back!

This was a return visit for us and the cottage and welcome we received was as lovely as ever, and the welcome pack was great!

The weather has been mixed but we’ve still managed to pack our week with walks from Helmsley to Rievaulx, Kirkdale and the riverside walk at Nunnington. Visits to Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall were all good.

Thank you to Phil & Clare for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage again.

Thank you for making us feel so welcome with amazing hamper of goodies and fresh flowers which shows that you really care about your guests

The cottage is beautiful very comfortable and spotlessly clean. It is in a perfect location to explore the countryside and coast.

Another lovely visit – best weather! We have enjoyed visiting old favourites and discovered some new places to visit. The highlight was seeing the Black Browed Albatross at Bempton Cliffs!

Thanks for making us so welcome land looking after us so well.

We’ve had a great week at the Hollow.

Plenty of space, very comfortable, fully equipped kitchen huge, comfortable bed and the added bonus of a private garden.

We packed a lot into our week including trips to the coast, cycling in Dalby forest, hiring a boat in York, and exploring the villages.

The Hollow was a great location to explore the area and provided us with a luxury retreat in the evening.

Thanks for a great stay.

We’ve had a delightful few days at Hendrick’s Hollow. The cottage has been ideal – so beautifully furnished . . . and such a comfortable bed!

Many thanks Phil & Clare!

We loved Yorkshire we will certainly return, can’t recommend Hendrick’s hollow highly enough.

Thank you Phil & Clare

We have had an amazing week here at Hendrick’s Hollow for our honeymoon. We wanted somewhere peaceful, cosy and tucked away and that’s exactly what we got. Clare & Phil went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and even left us a bottle of bubbly to celebrate. The welcome basket is a lovely touch and was great after a day of travelling.

Thank you Phil & Clare for such a lovely hideaway to stay in, we will definitely be back!

We have had a really lovely week here – some beautiful weather and great walks. We loved walks from Hutton-le-hole, from Cho Gate over the Moors and from Helmsley.

It was great to go to the coast too – Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay were lovely.

We’ve eaten really well . . . .! Sunday lunch in Wombleton, La Trattoria in Helmsley and fish and chips from Kirkbymoorside were really good.

The cottage has been perfect – really comfy and relaxing to be in. Thank you Clare & Phil for making is so lovely. We will be back!

14th February 2022

We are so glad we found Hendrick’s Hollow – a perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning countryside around. Our personal highlights have been:-

  • Rievaulx Abbey
  • Driving across the Moors to spend the day in Whitby
  • Pie Night in The Sun pub i the village
  • Delicious cakes and afternoon pottering around the shops in Malton (coffee & cake at THe Hidden Monkey)
  • Hutton – le – Hole such a beautiful village

We look forward to coming back again when hopefully it wont be so windy. Thank you Phil & Clare for creating such a lovely home from hoe, and for allowing us to stay an extra night so we didn’t have to drive home in the storm.

Dear Angela,

We just wanted to pass on what a lovely property the above is and how it really made our holiday. We had such a warm welcome from Claire and she made us feel very relaxed. We arrived to find a very generous Welcome basket and the property was  beautifully decorated and very clean. Every aspect had been given thought to, to make our stay comfortable. We particularly found the Visitor guides and maps of the local area very useful and helpful.

Please could you pass this on, because we would like to know Claire’s hard work is really appreciated and it is definitely a property we would like to stay at again, or would  recommend to friends,  if coming to that area again,

Kindest Regards,
Christine and Paul June 2021
