July 2024
Angram Cottage is beautiful and we would quite happily stay there again, we stayed there for nine nights with our our daughter, son-in-law and nine month old grandson.
Rachel, the owner, was there to greet us and to show us around the property, Rachel and her husband are a lovely couple and made us feel very welcome. The property was immaculate when we arrived and is finished to a very high spec and all the fitting and fixtures are of good quality.
Our daughter and her husband had the downstairs bedroom as they needed a bath for their nine month old baby. There was plenty of room for the three of them even with the travel cot assembled, they found the bed very comfortable. My wife and I had the upstairs bedroom which was huge, we also had a very big bathroom which had a great walk-in shower.
The views from the cottage are lovely of the surrounding countryside. Coxwold is the nearest village to Angram Cottage and takes less than five minutes to drive to, it is a lovely little village with a pub, we had dinner there on two occasions and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Booking a table in advance is advised. It’s a nice pub to visit. We also visited the Byland Inn, opposite Byland Abbey, twice for drinks, this has a more upmarket restaurant, the menu looked very good and the restaurant was very busy. It’s about a ten minute drive from the cottage. Another pub/restaurant to try is the Plum and Partridge in Hurstwaite which is about a fifteen minute drive from the cottage, we had Sunday dinner there and the food was very good and reasonably priced, The restaurant is very modern and comfortable and is well worth a visit.
Other places we visited were Thirsk, nice town to visit if you are interested in James Herriot or need a train there is a mainline station there, York is a lovely city – walked the City walls on a free walking tour, Helmsley another very pretty town with lots of places to eat, Whitby famous seaside resort with ruins of abbey to visit, Robin Hood Bay very picturesque, Easingwold another small pretty town. Ampleforth Abbey open to the public and free entrance, it is still a working Abbey with monks and the famous college with amazing grounds and facilities you can use. Harrogate, we had afternoon tea at Bettys, we visited Knaresborough and Mother Shipton’s caves, and also Rievaulx famous for its Abbey.
We found booking with Beautiful Escapes very easy, if we are ever looking to visit Yorkshire again we will book with Beautiful Escapes again.
Thank you Mike and family.
