THE LOCAL AREA

One of the most famous walks in the UK, Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk finishes in Robin Hood’s Bay and the village also lies on the Cleveland Way footpath as well as many local circular walks, the village lends itself as the perfect village bolthole for a walking holiday exploring some of the best walks in the country.

Robin Hood’s Bay is just 5 miles from Whitby and is a much-loved gravity-defying picture-postcard village. Once home to the smuggling trade on the Yorkshire coast, said to involve fisherman, clergy and gentry alike, today the village has adopted a much more sedate pace of life.

There are also several pubs in the village with great pub grub. If you want to dine in, take advantage of the well-stocked local stores there, including a fishmongers selling  locally caught fish. There are independent shops and cafes dotted around the village and not forgetting the dinosaur museum!

As hard as it will be to steal yourself away from Robin Hood’s Bay, you really ought to explore the rest of the coast. The Yorkshire coastline is a mix of rugged cliff tops, with RSPB Bempton Cliffs just 30 miles along the coast, visit in May/June to see the Puffins. With so many peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages, long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside attractions of yesteryear, this is proper bucket ‘n spade territory.

September 2025

The best cottage in Robin Hoods Bay! We have stayed in lots of cottages over the years at the coast and in the Bay and this is the best by far, we loved everything about it, the views are amazing, wake up to far reaching views of the Bay, you can’t get better than that. The cottage interior was beautiful, so well done, we loved everything about it. We spent lots of time enjoying the cottage but also did some great walks along the coast and into the Moors.

Can’t recommend Arthur’s Cottage highly enough, we are already planning our next visit!

August 2025
Thank you for a lovely stay at Arthur’s cottage. We had a great time. The cottage was wonderful and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was also immaculate. The cleaner did a fantastic job, which includes the interim clean she carried out as we stayed for two weeks.
Just to let you know she left some micro fibre cloths on the stairs, so we put these in the pantry.
We had a fabulous stay and Arthur’s Cottage was brilliant. Beautiful Escapes is now our favourite UK booking site.
Thank you again.

Arthur’s Cottage was an absolute stunner . Our time here was to mark a milestone Birthday and Wow its breath taking position cosied up in to the bay was unforgettable. Renovated to the highest of standards and its quirky lay out was mind blowing  Robin Hoods Bay is a complete maze and for all the years this house has stood there hiding that it’s own interior is the best kept secret, thank you for sharing this amazing place .We can not wait to return , our little dog was so fulfilled and calm and adapted to his new surroundings without any issues. I love cooking and had everything to hand to make a restaurant worthy meal for us and dine out in the garden was complete bliss, idyllic. I just want to live there, loved how I could wake up to THAT view!

The quality of everything, bedding ,towels furnishings quirky art work on every floor, the attention to detail was evident throughout, thank you for helping me find the No 1 house in Robin Hoods Bay to make the birthday wishes come true, I’d give 10 stars if it was at all possible!

Dear Angela

I’ve been coming to Robin Hoods Bay  for over 20 years and have stayed in many of the cottages there, Arthur’s cottage was something else, beautifully decorated, comfy beds and comfy lounge furniture. Lovely kitchen with dining table and everything you need for cooking.
The position of Arthur’s cottage is perfect with some beautiful sea views, also the outside space is ideal for morning coffee and is a rea sun trap. Arthur’s cottage ticks all the boxes for a five star break in the beautiful Robin Hoods Bay.
Such an advantage to have a car park space too.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful cottage, highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a special place to stay in the heart of Robin Hoods Bay, it is a very cottage in a special place.

Very comfortable cottage, stylish décor, lovely rooms. Spectacular views over the North Sea from the cottage and garden, sitting in the garden was very pleasant and relaxing.
We have been to Robins Hood Bay and surrounding area in the past. Lovely village and we were able to visit ‘Open Gardens’ the day after we arrived, getting to see more of the surrounding area. Having a secure parking space is a real bonus too.
Thank you, Anne

I just wanted to send a personal note of thanks following our stay at Arthur’s Cottage. We’ve had a truly wonderful few days — and feel quite sad to leave.

It’s a magical spot, clearly restored with great care and attention to detail. Every element, from the thoughtful design to the beautiful scent that greets you, felt intentional and welcoming. We really appreciated it all — it’s obviously been a labour of love.

We very much hope to return again soon — it’s a special place, and one we’d love to revisit.

Warm wishes,

Juliet

Beautiful Escapes were fantastic from start to finish and we cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you for making our holiday so very special.

January 2025

We loved Arthur’s Cottage, it is beautiful, very stylish and in a fantastic location, we have stayed in Robin Hoods Bay lots of times and this must be the best cottage by far! Although we stayed in the winter you can imagine how fantastic it will be in the better weather to have that garden overlooking the sea, we did manage our morning coffee out there and it was an amazing way to start to the day.

Lots of places to explore along the coast, Ravenscar, Staithes, Runswick, Whitby for fish and chips and we loved the Moors around Goathland and the steam trains at Grosmont.

We will be back, thank you for all your help with our questions too,

Paul, Julie and Lynne and Mark x
