Wuthering Heights Brings the Yorkshire Dales Back to The Big Screen

22nd January 2026

Yorkshire’s rich literary history is perhaps best exemplified through the work of the Brontë sisters. Emily Brontë’s iconic gothic novel, Wuthering Heights, takes place in the 18th century against the scenic backdrop of the Yorkshire Moors and tells the passionate love story between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. This celebrated work has inspired numerous film and TV adaptations including the upcoming film from Emerald Fennell, writer and director of “Wuthering Heights”. Known for her hugely successful work on Saltburn, this highly anticipated release will be in cinemas worldwide on the 13th of February 2026.

Starring Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, this adaptation is a loosely inspired, modern take on Brontë’s classic novel. The film showcases the expansive moorland and picturesque villages that inspired the tale in all their glory. So where better to celebrate this new release than actually being there yourself, surrounded by the natural beauty of Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park features heavily and offers its rugged fells and heather-covered hills as a picture-perfect background to this romantic classic. The impressive valleys and sprawling moorlands of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale can be seen on the silver screen this February as they set the scene for Brontë’s bleak, gothic tale of love and loss. Arkengarthdale’s largest village, Langwaith, has served as a filming spot for Yorkshire’s hugely popular All Creatures Great and Small while “Wuthering Heights” will take to Low Row village for its countryside charm, complete with quaint, stone cottages and enchanting, winding lanes. The idyllic Surrender Bridge can also be spotted in the film’s exciting trailer, giving it an eerie, gothic feel.

While there’s plenty of filming locations and sights to see, Yorkshire and the Dales are home to so many more must-see places. The nearby village of Reeth, which served as the base camp for the “Wuthering Heights” production team, features cosy, traditional pubs and spectacular views of the rugged Yorkshire countryside. A trip to this historic county offers visitors a glimpse into the Brontë sisters’ lives and the land from which they drew inspiration to create literary works that have stood the test of time. For real enthusiasts, the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth boasts the world’s largest collection of Brontë items while the village is full of charming cafés and bookshops.
