Shooting in North Yorkshire
The North York Moors had a record year in 2019 for shooting drawing many to the area to take part in this historical sport which is the reason that we are able to maintain the outstanding habitat that is the moorland for native birds and other wildlife. Without controlling the predators the landscape would not exist as it is today.
Beginning with the Grouse season on the Glorious Twelfth shooting season dates for North Yorkshire are as follows:
Grouse
12 August – 10 December
Partridge
1 September – 1 February
Pheasant
1 October – 1 February
Duck
1 September – 31 January (20 February on the coast)
We’d recommend to everyone who would like to join a shoot while they are visiting the area to ensure they have specialist insurance and to use a local guide or agent as all shooting must be with permission from the land owner and only of the birds that are permitted.
More information on local shooting can be found on the North York Moors website.
