Journey along a private lane from the pretty village of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe, near the City of York, and make friends with the lambs and llamas in the fields as you approach The Old Dairy, set in the grounds of the owners home at Cleaves Hall. The cottage has been a real labour of love for owners Will and Natasha, with careful attention being paid to all of the important details, luxuriously appointed throughout, it is a homely cottage that exudes country charm.

From winter warming retreats, with a roaring log fire and evenings spent curled up on the sofa, to summer days accompanied by the heady fragrance of cottage flowers and beautiful eucalyptus. Gormire Lake is a just a mile from the cottage, visitors report that the lake and Garbutt Wood, which encroaches right up to the shore, have an ‘otherworldly’ and ‘fairytale’ quality, in recent times it was named as one of the best wild swimming spots in Britain!

This is a beautiful cottage, surrounded by large gardens with stunning views across glorious Yorkshire countryside, it is an idyllic setting, it will be hard to steal yourself away.

REVIEWS

We love to hear back from our guests to find out their experience with Beautiful Escapes.

April 2023
We were very happy with The Ol Dairy, the location and the access to paths straight from the cottage.  Would happily return and explore the area some more – 2 days wasn’t enough. Great for outdoor enthusiasts (walkers and cyclists) and nature lovers (lovely to see lambs and llamas in the owner’s fields).
The booking process was straight-forward and we would be happy to book with you again.

Christmas 2022

The booking process was easy and efficient to use, the prompt nature of the booking and subsequent correspondence enabled us to relax and just plan our Christmas week.

We liked the fact that Beautiful Escapes is concentrating on the core business of quality holiday lets. We have found in recent years that other booking sites have drifted away from this core and have offered a wider variety of accommodation such as hotels, guest houses etc. Beautiful Escapes made it easy to discover exactly what we wanted.
The Old Dairy is an excellent property, it was a comfortable home from home that has clearly had a lot of thought and care put into it. A special thank you for the thoughtful Christmas touches that added to our Christmas break.

The Housebook provided a lot of useful information both before we travelled and when we arrived at the property.

There was so much to see and do, we enjoyed Fountains and Rievaulx Abbeys, and spent some time in Thirsk and York.

We would definitely recommend The Old Dairy to anyone thinking of booking and we would highly recommend Beautiful Escapes as a luxury holiday letting agent going above beyond to provide excellent service.

August 2022

We had a wonderful stay at The Old Dairy, such a beautiful cottage, the garden was stunning, so big, plenty of room for the children and the dog to play, the location was great, near to lots of local attractions and not far from the Moors, York and the coast. We would highly recommend.
