Living Space

The open plan double height space has been thoughtfully and creatively designed by owners, Kirstin & Christopher. Careful attention has been paid to all of the details, both big and small, the end result is a stunning, contemporary retreat for two. There is so much space to rest and relax. The large Loaf sofa is perfect for snuggling by the log fire and watching your favourite movie on the smart TV, or spread out the Sunday papers on the huge vintage dining table, fill the coffee pot, spin your favourite vinyl on the Bang & Olufsen record player and while away an hour or two.


There are lots of interesting places to explore and wonderful things to discover in the local area, but if you just want to hunker down, cook up a treat and enjoy the space then The Grey Shed kitchen by DeVol is the place to be.  Well equipped and beautifully appointed this stunning kitchen makes cooking up a hearty breakfast or a tasty supper a pleasure for even the most discerning of cooks!

The mezzanine bedroom is a haven of peace and tranquility, with a roll top bath, perfect for a soak at the end of a day out rambling across the Howardian Hills. Lay back on the super king bed dressed with super soft linen bedding, look up through the skylights and enjoy stargazing as you drift off to sleep.


The ground floor bathroom is spacious and luxuriously appointed with a large walk in monsoon shower, Aesop toiletries and fluffy towels, just perfect for those invigorating morning showers.


Fully equipped boot/laundry room with large utility sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, drying rack, iron/ironing board & microwave.

Outside space

Open the Critall style doors on to the enclosed sun terrace with seating, fire pit and grill to enjoy al fresco dining, there is also an adjacent private meadow with additional seating, perfect for an evening sundowner looking out over the fields.

Good to know

This property sleeps a maximum of two people and is not suitable for children, but babies in arms are welcome.

Due to the remote location, travelling by car is advisable.

Pets are not allowed.

The owners live in the farmhouse on site.

From The Grey Shed you can explore both The Howardian Hills and also the neighbouring North York Moors National Park. Both offer excellent walking routes for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect place for a cycling holiday with miles upon miles of perfect climbs and descents awaiting your discovery with jaw-dropping views to make the climbs worth the burn!

There are many historical attractions nearby including the majestic Castle Howard,  the ecclesiastical ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Byland Abbey and a castle in the attractive market town of Helmsley.

Being just 13 miles north of the City of York you are also perfectly placed to head into the City to experience the culture of the Minster, galleries and the ancient City walls. Or if your passion is food you’ll find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover!
