Head Lad cottage is one of a beautiful collection of four holiday properties set on a private country estate in lower Wensleydale on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The main Hall is an historic house, built in 1703 in the Queen Anne style and is home to Emma and Charles, it sits majestically in an idyllic setting of 25 acres of woodland and private gardens.

Forming part of a stunning renovation of the former stable accommodation which has been executed with uncompromising attention to detail by Emma & Charles, the end result is a unique range of stylish and luxurious properties making them perfect for a Beautiful Escape.

Guests must be 21 years plus to stay at Head Lad.

Head Lad cottage is a private, contemporary and spacious couples retreat with set on the ground floor of the old stable block, it has exclusive use of a hot tub set in the woodland.

Head Lad can be booked individually for a couples romantic escape, or together with Tack Room, Hayloft and Groom’s Rooms for the perfect getaway for a group of up to eight people in the four separate properties, perfect for mixing a group getaway with some private time as each property is self contained.

Living Space

Beautiful light floods in to this cosy cottage from two windows overlooking the stunning parkland all around. This contemporary space flows beautifully with washed oak flooring and stylish interior furnishings throughout. In the sitting area a comfy leather sofa invites you to kick back and relax, there is a large TV, perfect for watching movies.

Enjoy complimentary logs for your entire stay including unlimited heating and hot water from an Eco-friendly wood-pellet biomass boiler.


The open plan kitchen is well laid out making cooking a pleasure in this charming cottage, relax and chat over a bottle of wine and enjoy a tasty supper by the fire or sit by the window and take the stunning vista beyond.


Contemporary décor offers a sense of calm and tranquillity.  The bedroom has twin beds which are nestled together so you can cosy up to watch the TV here too. Just steps from the bed is the en suite bathroom with power shower.

Outside & Hot Tub

There is a beautiful lawned area for use by the cottages with garden furniture for you to enjoy relaxing outside, the perfect spot for an afternoon picnic or supper al fresco.

There is a large courtyard to the front of the old stable block which provides ample parking.

In the Hall there is a wonderful YogaSpace where Emma the owner runs Yoga and Pilates classes including Kundalini, Yoga Nidra and Gong bath and Yoga for Cancer. For further information please see the Yogaspace Yorkshire website.

Head Lad cottage is situated in Lower Wensleydale, often referred to as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and the National Park. The perfect location for exploring all that the Dales has to offer.

The wide, stunning landscapes of rolling hills and valleys, peppered with farms and livestock and the many historic and picturesque villages gives the Dales a very distinctive appearance. Wensleydale, Swaledale, Coverdale and Arkengarthdale are all easily accessible from the Head Lad whether you want to venture out on foot, cycling or by car. Hop on the Wensleydale railway and take in the scenery as you travel you up the dale to Redmire.
